Destiny and Free Will

One of the topics I hear a lot of conflicting opinions about is destiny. Some believe that every single thing that happens is preordained. Others chalk their experiences up solely to happenstance. And where does free will play into it?
My spirit guides and I have talked quite a bit about this topic. From their perspective, the two are entwined. One is about the choices you made on the Astral Plane before incarnating, and the other is about the choices you make once here on the Physical Plane.
If you happen to be born a tadpole, you're not going to be making much use of free will. You'll hang out in the pond with your siblings, then go on to be a frog. It's fairly predictable. But, as a human, you have the opportunity to do many things with your life. The higher the level of consciousness, the greater the ability to exercise free will and make your own choices.
